Silence Isn’t Negotiation—It’s Time for the Real Thing

What Management Fears Most: Real Negotiation 🔥 Real Power

Flight Attendants at every AFA-represented airline—including those at United, who recently exercised this right—have the democratic power to vote for or against a tentative agreement negotiated by a team chosen by Flight Attendants, not management, under the legally mandated framework of the Railway Labor Act.

This process, built on transparency, member input, and accountability, has raised the bar for Flight Attendants across the industry—even at non-union airlines like SkyWest.

And that’s exactly why management fears it.

SkyWest management doesn’t want us voting on contracts. They don’t want us choosing our negotiators. They don’t want to sit across the table from us as equals. So instead, they disparage union negotiations—twisting the story when members vote down an agreement as part of a democratic process, while we’re left with no such power under SIA.

Because SIA isn’t a union—it’s a tool to maintain control. It mimics representation while leaving management firmly in charge.

When real unions like AFA win improvements—higher pay, legal protections, stronger scheduling rules—SkyWest management’s playbook is simple:

  • Wait and watch what unionized regionals successfully negotiate

  • Copy some of the most visible improvements—just enough to claim “top pay” or competitive work rules

  • Use SIA to take credit, even though there was no real bargaining

  • Claw back the gains behind the scenes, knowing there’s no enforceable contract to stop them

Because without a union contract, nothing they give us is guaranteed—and everything can be taken away at any time. They fear a real union at SkyWest because it would force them to negotiate with us, not over us.

Many former SIA reps saw this from the inside—and that’s why they left. They’re now helping build SkyWest AFA because they saw how SIA silences Flight Attendants and blocks progress.

It’s time for something real.

We’re not asking for permission—we’re organizing for power. And that’s exactly what management fears the most.

👇 Keep reading the blog post below to see how real union negotiations work—and why they’ve delivered lasting gains for Flight Attendants across the industry.

Let’s Finish What We Started ✈️ — Every Card, Every Voice

We’ve sent a strong message: SkyWest Flight Attendants are ready for real representation and the protections only a union can provide. But before we can have a union election and vote YES for SkyWest AFA, we have to reach the threshold required by law.

That means showing the National Mediation Board (NMB) that a strong majority of us support holding an election—and we do that by signing union authorization cards.

🗳️ Your card is your voice. It’s private. Management never sees who signs. But when enough of us do, the NMB can schedule our vote.

This is how we move from being talked over and dismissed to having a legal voice and binding protections.

📣 Every single card matters. Every Flight Attendant counts.

💬 That’s why your participation is essential—not just signing your own card, but making sure your coworkers are informed. SkyWest management is running a coordinated campaign of confusion, half-truths, and division. They aim to delay, distract, and wear us down.

We fight that with facts and solidarity.

📲 Visit ooitstime.com/flight-facts to find answers to the most common questions and misinformation—and share it widely.

🌀 Reminder: Cards expire after one year. If you signed a while ago, renew your card today at ooitstime.com/getcard.

👜 Keep a few extra cards in your bag. Ask a coworker if they’ve signed. One honest conversation can change everything.

We’re organizing for:

✔️ Real transparency and accountability
✔️ The right to challenge unfair discipline through due process
✔️ Job protections that can’t be taken away at management’s discretion
✔️ Pay that reflects our value
✔️ Work rules that protect our time, health, and well-being
✔️ A voice that’s truly ours—not one created or controlled by management

While SkyWest executives grow wealthier, they’re doing everything they can to prevent us from gaining the legal rights and power that come with union representation—including the ability to enforce fair treatment and fight unjust discipline.

But we are not backing down.

Sign. Share. Stay united. Let’s finish what we started—together.
