The Truth SkyWest Doesn’t Want You to Know
Dear Fellow Crewmembers,
We’re organizing for a better future at SkyWest—and we want to be clear about what this campaign is and isn’t.
We are rooted in positivity, professionalism, and partnership. We believe in working with management to make SkyWest better for all of us—improving communication, strengthening protections, and ensuring long-term fairness and dignity.
But to have a real partnership, we need honesty. Currently, management relies on fear, dishonesty, and disinformation, backed by high-paid anti-union consultants, law firms, and even some coworkers recruited to repeat company talking points.
🔎 Disinformation is intentional deception. It’s designed to confuse, divide, and make us question our power. That’s exactly what’s happening at SkyWest—and it’s time to call it out.
We’re not divided. We’re organizing.
We’re not afraid. We’re standing up.
This is our union, built by us, and every one of us plays a role in spreading the truth and challenging the lies.
🔴 LIE #1: “SkyWest already has a contract.”
🟢 TRUTH: We don’t have a real contract—only a company-controlled policy manual.
What we have is not a contract—it’s a policy manual, the FAPM. Management controls it and can and does change it at any time, without our input, consent, or even notice. That’s not protection—it’s a trap.
A real union contract—like those AFA has secured at Envoy, Piedmont, and PSA—is negotiated by Flight Attendants, legally binding, and enforceable under federal law. It cannot be changed without our vote.
✅ Contracts protect Flight Attendants. Policy manuals protect the company.
🔴 LIE #2: “Unions create hostility and threaten job security.”
🟢 TRUTH: SkyWest management creates division—AFA builds unity and protection.
The real division comes from SkyWest management itself. They are currently suing Flight Attendants who uncovered fraud in a SIA election, while protecting the individual who committed the fraud because it benefited the company.
SIA reps frequently side with management or sit silently during discipline meetings. That’s not support—it’s complicity. Many former SIA supporters have joined AFA after realizing SIA was never built to serve us.
While SkyWest claims AFA causes division, they gladly accepted over $700 million in payroll relief—funding secured through legislation championed by AFA-CWA.
✅ AFA unites us, defends us, and delivers results—even before we officially join.
🔴 LIE #3: “Unions can’t help during probation and can get you fired over dues.”
🟢 TRUTH: AFA contracts shorten probation, protect new hires, and dues don’t start until we vote to approve a contract.
SkyWest has the longest probation in the regional industry—by design, to keep us afraid. AFA contracts at other airlines shorten probation and provide support much earlier.
As for dues:
You pay nothing until we negotiate and ratify our first contract.
Flight Attendants decide whether the contract is good enough. If it doesn’t meet our standards, we vote it down.
Once it’s ratified, we begin paying dues and gain the full power and protection of union membership.
Flexible payment plans are available. No one is punished for hardship.
Meanwhile, SIA doesn’t charge dues because it’s funded by the company—and serves the company. Their lawyers fight against us, not for us.
✅ Dues start after we win—and only if we approve the contract. That’s fairness, not fear.
🔴 LIE #4: “Union leaders don’t represent you—they push a national agenda.”
🟢 TRUTH: Our union is built by SkyWest Flight Attendants—for SkyWest Flight Attendants.
Our SkyWest AFA campaign was started by SkyWest Flight Attendants. We elect our own leaders, conduct our own surveys, and negotiate our own contracts.
AFA’s Constitution guarantees local control and member-driven decision-making. And with AFA-CWA, we also gain the strength to fight for better FAA rules, safety standards, and industry-wide improvements.
✅ We are the union. We set the agenda. No outside group decides for us.
🔴 LIE #5: “Signing a union card is risky—your info isn’t safe.”
🟢 TRUTH: Signing a card is 100% safe—your info is protected by law, and SkyWest is the only one who tried to expose it.
This is one of the most insulting lies management tells. AFA never sells or shares your personal information, and your signature is protected by federal law.
SkyWest, however, tried to subpoena the names of card signers in court—a clear attempt to intimidate and retaliate. AFA’s legal team stopped them cold.
✅ The only risk is doing nothing. AFA protects your privacy. SkyWest tried to violate it.
🟢 Truth Is on Our Side
We believe in dignity, fairness, and professionalism, including how we engage with management.
But trust must be mutual—and right now, SkyWest’s actions speak volumes.
They’ve hired anti-union consultants and lawyers to stop us.
They rely on fear and disinformation.
We have each other—and the truth.
This is not about conflict. It’s about having a real voice.
Not a fake association. Not a policy manual that can change overnight.
A real union. Built by Flight Attendants, for Flight Attendants.
What you can do now:
✔️ Sign your A-card - Request a card
✔️ Talk to your coworkers
✔️ Share this truth. Challenge the lies.
✔️ Stand with the Flight Attendants standing up for YOU
Together, we’re not just stronger.
We’re unstoppable.
🖊️ Request information and a SkyWest AFA Authorization Card. We can’t vote until a majority of us have signed an authorization card. Management never sees your card.
